Tensions flaring between GOP wings

Not a big surprise. Now that they have a safe majority, tensions are flaring between the pro-business and Christian Coalition wings of the GOP. Both sides expect their agenda to fly through unimpeded given their majority status. Both sides will apparently be disappointed.

Take the recent defeat of the bankruptcy bill, which VandeHei cites as an example of religious conservatives flexing their muscle. It's true that the bill went down after conservatives objected to a provision that would have made it tougher for abortion protestors to avoid paying fines they receive at abortion clinics. But what VandeHei doesn't say is that the bill these conservatives nixed was one the House Republican leadership--Dennis Hastert, Tom DeLay, Dick Armey--had worked extremely hard to pass, and which the business community considered a top priority.
