McCain shouts "FIRE" ...

... but knows not how full the theater is.

As of today, Senator John McCain (R-AZ) still believes our invasion of Iraq was wise and just.

But as regards the slice of mock yellowcake somebody left on Dubya's State Of The Union buffet table, McCain says "... have an investigation, find out who was responsible for it, and fire him!".

Without suspecting who that somebody might be, McCain lays out the essential predicates of an exciting high-stakes Jenga tournament.

Whose turn is it, anyway?

Update: dailyKos reader AndyS tabs McCain as the Howard Baker of WMD-gate. There may be more truth in this than AndyS realizes.

Few remember that Baker's immortal "What did he know, and when did he know it?" was originally formulated as a defense brief for the President ... steering the inquiry along lines to the effect that Nixon (like the rest of us) only found out about Watergate after the fact.

McCain (in my view) was proffering a Presidential line of defense, to the effect that Bush was a victim of bungled staff work and can still right his ship of state by finding out who the screw-ups are and making them walk the plank.
